NMFC 103900 - Iron Converter Scale in Drums | Class 65

Note 103902: NOTE-Applies only on iron converter scale which forms on inner walls of iron or steel converters used in the manufacture of acid by contact process.

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. Reference NMFC Note, item 103902 on paperwork and label drums as Iron Converter Scale, non-hazardous, with NMFC 103900 and drum counts.
2. Use tighthead steel or poly 55-gallon drums with intact bungs; palletize two per layer when weight allows and band or stretch-wrap to prevent drum roll.
3. Keep lids clean and closures dry to avoid residue seepage; place absorbent pads under bungs for long hauls to prevent staining even though it’s non-haz.
4. Quote confidently at Class 65 without density, but still provide piece count, drum size, and pallet dimensions to avoid reweigh/reclass charges.
