How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Bag small pins by size, place into inner cartons, then a master box to prevent loss and speed counts; add dividers for mixed diameters.
- Use corrosion control: VCI bags or light oil wrap for plain steel; keep moisture away and note finish (zinc, black oxide) on labels.
- Pick rugged packaging for dense loads: 44 ECT double-wall boxes, limit each carton to safe lift weight, and apply “Heavy” labels.
- For bulk moves, load lined plastic or steel drums, strap to pallets, and provide exact piece counts and scale weights on the BOL.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
