Classification Details

NMFC Description Class
106220.00 Plate, Sheet or Strip, faced on one or both sides with plastic or rubber other than cellular, expanded, foam or sponge plastic or rubber, in packages 60

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. List NMFC 106220 and Class 60 on the BOL; describe as “steel plate/sheet/strip, plastic- or rubber-faced (non-foam), in packages,” and include piece count and pallet dimensions.
  2. Stack flat on a pallet with interleaving film or paper to protect the facing; add edge protectors, cross-banding, and stretch-wrap, plus a rigid top sheet to prevent scuffing.
  3. Control moisture and heat—use a barrier (e.g., VCI paper or poly) if corrosion is possible and avoid tight shrink-wrap directly on the faced surface to prevent lift-off.
  4. Handle with fork extensions or a spreader bar to keep bundles flat; keep loads square, don’t top-stack heavy freight, and mark “Do Not Double Stack.”

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Predictable costs: fixed Class 60 removes density calculations and reduces reclass disputes.
  • Lower claim risk by protecting faced surfaces from abrasion or delamination, improving customer acceptance.
  • Faster quoting and simpler compliance—non-hazardous status and ‘packages’ packaging streamline LTL booking.
  • Clear “non-cellular facing” description avoids misclassification with foam products, stabilizing freight rates.
