How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the note under NMFC item 108106 and determine where your shipment lands within the 85–125 class range based on kit makeup and packaging.
- Place dye tablets or liquid packets inside a sealed secondary poly bag with absorbent material, then pack into inner cartons to prevent leaks or staining during transit.
- Use sturdy corrugated boxes (32 ECT or stronger) and fill voids with kraft or molded pulp; example: 12 retail kits per master carton with dividers to stop crushing.
- Print the NMFC 108105 and selected freight class on the BOL; mark cartons This Side Up and keep retail kits oriented to protect cups, crayons, and inserts.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value

- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat paperwork and surcharges, cutting administrative time and cost.
- Retail-ready master packs reduce handling at distribution centers, lowering accessorial risk and damage claims.
- Stackable, right-sized cartons improve trailer cube utilization, helping secure better LTL rates and faster turns.
