How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List on your BOL as NMFC 108110, Class 100 (boxed kits); no density details are required for rating.
- Prep the kit: tape oil caps, poly-bag bottles, pad the empty gas can, and add dividers so cleaners and oil don’t rub or leak.
- Palletize upright with corner boards and stretch wrap; avoid overhang. Example: 8–12 kits on a 40x48 pallet for retail replenishment.
- During peak lawn-and-garden season, ship standard LTL to distributors and include a packing list detailing can size (≤2.5 gal) and contents for faster receiving.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat fees and special handling, improving carrier acceptance and transit options.
- Fixed Class 100 simplifies quoting and forecasting, reducing reclass charges and surprise rate adjustments.
- Boxed, single-SKU kits reduce pick errors and damage claims, cutting accessorials tied to repack or rework.
- Clear NMFC 108110 identification on paperwork speeds audits and minimizes disputes, saving admin time and costs.
