How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Verify the item fits the NMFC note reference (see Note, item 108202) and that the kits are true plastic adhesive repair sets shipped in boxes.
- Prevent leaks and mess: bag each tube or bottle, use corrugated partitions or inner trays, add absorbent lining, and orient contents upright within the carton.
- Choose sturdy cartons (200-lb test or better). Cushion any included tools, spreaders, or mixing cups, minimize void space, and mark cartons “This Side Up.”
- For LTL, palletize square to the deck, keep cartons within the pallet footprint, stretch-wrap and top-sheet, and list “NMFC 108200, Class 70, boxes” on the BOL. Example: replenishing automotive body shops or DIY retailers.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 rating delivers predictable pricing and reduces the chance of reclass fees.
- Boxed-only packaging speeds cross-dock handling and helps cut OS&D claims on adhesive kits.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and streamlines paperwork and transit planning.
- Clear NMFC mapping enables accurate quotes, better contract negotiations, and fewer accessorial surprises.
