Notes
Note 10924: NOTE-Item 110, Sec. 13 will govern, except that "two or more" may be substituted for "three or more." Nested provisions will also apply when one or more fenders are completely or partially enclosed within others.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List the freight as “Fenders, agricultural implement, NOI, steel” on the BOL to match the NMFC wording and avoid reclass disputes.
- Protect sharp, curved edges with foam, edge guards, and stretch wrap; band securely to a pallet or crate so panels don’t flex during transit.
- Choose packaging by size: standard tractor fenders fit a 48x40 pallet; large combine fenders ride better in a custom crate or returnable rack with blocking.
- Document part numbers and the implement make/model, then photograph each fender pre-ship; this speeds claims handling if a dent or scrape occurs.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Accurate NOI description reduces inspection delays and unexpected reclass fees.
- Non-hazardous steel parts simplify booking and insurer approvals, shortening lead times.
- Proper edge protection and bracing cut damage rates, preserving margins on high-finish panels.
- Right-size pallets or racks improve cube utilization and can lower LTL rates across lanes.
