How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack each lead nozzle in heavy-duty corrugated boxes with internal blocking or foam, and cap the ends to prevent deformation or nicks during cross-dock transfers.
- Line boxes with poly or VCI film to contain any residue and limit moisture; add desiccant when routing through humid regions or long dwell times.
- Palletize to spread weight evenly, keep the center of gravity low, and mark boxes as Heavy—Team Lift; use banding and edge protectors to curb crushing.
- Print NMFC 110350, Class 70 on the BOL and include accurate net/gross weights and piece counts; note alloy or finish to avoid unnecessary handling exceptions.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 provides stable pricing and reduces reclass penalties across carriers.
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat surcharges and simplifies paperwork, accelerating tender-to-pickup.
- Boxed packaging streamlines dock handling, lowering OS&D risk and cutting claim exposure for delicate, soft lead components.
- Clear, consistent specs help TMS rating accuracy and improve bid responses for annual or project freight.
