How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Calculate packed density from total weight and outer size to select the correct class within 65–175.
- Pick packaging by build and finish: double‑wall boxes with foam for light laminate units, or wood crates for heavy solid-wood or integrated‑amp podiums.
- Remove and bag accessories like gooseneck mics, reading lights, and power cords, then label and secure them inside the package to avoid breakage.
- Palletize tall or narrow lecterns, strap at multiple points, add corner protection, and mark Do Not Stack to reduce tip‑over risk.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Accurate density classing avoids reclass fees and delivers sharper LTL rates for schools, venues, and AV rental fleets.
- Right-size packaging (box vs crate) balances cube and protection, cutting both damage claims and unnecessary freight spend.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines carrier handling and documentation, speeding quotes and pickups.
- Consistent spec sheets for recurring models enable faster bids for multi-campus or event rollouts.
