NMFC 113450: Wooden Railroad Ties | Class 50

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. List NMFC 113450 and Class 50 on the BOL, and describe as “wooden railroad ties,” noting if creosoted or untreated.
2. Unitize in uniform bundles with steel banding and dunnage; allow fork pockets every 3–4 ft for safe handling of 8–9 ft lengths.
3. Use a liner, drip trays, or tarps to contain creosote bleed and prevent staining of trailers or mixed freight.
4. Load tight to bulkheads with no overhang; block and brace bundles, and keep individual pack weights within your forklift’s capacity.
