How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Identify the item as an HVAC air cleaner, dehumidifier, or air washer with an integral blower/fan and cite NMFC 114110 on the BOL to avoid misclassification as generic parts.
- Prep units by draining tanks and coils, removing or securing filters, capping air inlets/outlets, and immobilizing fan blades with foam blocks or zip ties to prevent rotor movement.
- Palletize upright, block caster wheels, use corner boards, and apply breathable stretch wrap; add strapping and a rigid top sheet with Do Not Stack labeling for motor and shroud protection.
- Attach model/serial details, weight and dimensions, and photos of packing; confirm accessorials (residential, liftgate, inside) and note power type to streamline terminal handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Correct NMFC 114110 usage reduces reclass fees and inspection delays, protecting margins on HVAC and restoration equipment shipments.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and speeds tendering, improving transit reliability for time-sensitive service calls and project starts.
- Palletizing multiple units as one shipment cuts touchpoints, lowers damage risk to fans and housings, and improves claim ratios.
- Clear pack-out for blower-equipped units minimizes OS&D, prevents moisture or dust ingress, and reduces costly returns and field service visits.
