Notes
Note 114992: NOTE-Studs and nuts to attach blades to hub may be shipped attached to or in package with hubs.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Package blades so edges and tips are protected; use foam edge guards, corrugated pads, and separators when shipping multiple blades in one box or crate.
- State “fan/blower blades without hubs” on the BOL; if hubs are included, reference Note, item 114992 and list them as a separate line to avoid misclassification.
- Choose packaging by size and material: double‑wall cartons for small aluminum/composite blades; blocked-and-braced wood crates for large steel blower wheels.
- Palletize to prevent flexing and warping—strap packages to a sturdy pallet, avoid overhang, and mark orientation if blades must remain flat.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Correct “in packages” preparation reduces reclass fees and chargebacks tied to loose or inadequately protected machinery parts.
- Clear separation of blades and hubs streamlines rating and billing, minimizing disputes and speeding up carrier acceptance.
- Damage reduction from edge protection and bracing cuts replacement costs and keeps production or HVAC service schedules on track.
- Non-hazardous status and a well-documented package improve cross-dock handling, helping secure better LTL performance and rates.
