How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack each portable venturi blower in a rigid double‑wall box with internal blocking; cap the venturi throat and outlets to keep debris out, and bag loose fittings.
- List the full description on the BOL: “venturi type, compressed air or steam operated, portable, in boxes,” include NMFC 114995, and apply Class 150 to prevent reclass.
- If hoses or nozzles ship with the unit, coil and bag them separately so they don’t puncture the carton; cushion impellers and handles to resist drop shocks.
- Provide piece count, box dimensions, and weight for quoting even though class is fixed; palletize multiple cartons only if needed for handling or stack safety.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 150 rating delivers predictable LTL pricing and fewer invoice disputes.
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat paperwork and surcharges, speeding tender and pickup.
- Boxed packaging improves carrier acceptance and reduces damage claims on portable units.
- Single classification applies to air- or steam-driven models, simplifying multi-location shipping standards.
