How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Palletize or skid-mount the bucket upright, band through lifting eyes or bail, block conical bases, and shield gate actuators with corner boards.
- Remove detachable chutes, vibrators, or hanger frames; ship separately or secure inside the bucket cavity and list every attachment on the BOL.
- Cap sharp edges and hooks, add plywood guards on rims, use abrasion-resistant wrap for painted finishes, and drain any residual slurry before pickup.
- Record overall size including bail height and gate handles, note center of gravity for crane handling at origin, and confirm forklift or liftgate capacity for heavy units.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Accurate NMFC wording—“concrete conveying buckets with or without attachments”—reduces reclass and unexpected accessorials.
- Edge protection, blocking, and bail guards cut damage claims and repaint costs on coated or lined buckets.
- Nesting buckets or shipping attachments separately lowers cube, improving LTL pricing and freight efficiency.
- Clear handling notes (pick points, COG, true weight) speed loading, limit detention, and improve carrier acceptance.
