How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Crate or palletize burner, sprayer, or vaporizer assemblies with rigid blocking; protect nozzles, igniters, and control valves using caps and foam.
- Drain residual fuel or oil from units and tag as cleaned; remove regulators or fragile gauges and pack them separately inside the crate.
- Center heavy cast housings low on the skid; band through frame points and add tip-and-tell indicators for tall blower stacks.
- List the NOI description and part model on the BOL; include crate dimensions and weight for accurate LTL quotes and fewer reclass reviews.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Non-hazardous classification avoids hazmat fees and special handling surcharges.
- Proper crating of metal burner assemblies reduces in-transit damages and claim costs for OEMs and bakery operations.
- Clear NOI labeling minimizes reclass risk, stabilizing freight rates and improving quote-to-invoice accuracy.
- Disassembling bulky housings or fuel-train attachments lowers cube, enabling better LTL consolidation and lower cost per unit.
