How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Reference NMFC 115960 and Class 100 on the BOL to lock the fixed class and prevent density reclass disputes.
- Pack each machine in a rigid, double-wall box with foam-in-place or dense PE inserts to immobilize motors, feed rollers, and stamp heads.
- Secure moving parts: lock feeders, tape doors and trays, bag loose hardware, and coil power cords; label with Up arrows and fragile machinery notes.
- Palletize the boxed unit when weight or size warrants; strap and stretch-wrap the carton to the pallet to avoid crushing and simplify LTL handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing with a fixed Class 100 rating—no density math, fewer billing adjustments.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines carrier acceptance and reduces accessorial risks tied to special handling.
- Standard boxed packaging speeds quotes and tendering, helping mailrooms and print shops plan pickups confidently.
- Consistent NMFC across multiple units simplifies billing, claims, and rate negotiations for repeat shipments.
