How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack each empty scale housing in a double‑wall box with foam corners or molded inserts to protect thin flanges, display windows, and cable knockouts.
- Bag and label small hardware or brackets, then tape the pouch inside the carton so loose parts don’t abrade painted metal or plastic shells.
- Mark cartons “Empty Scale Housing—Fragile Edges” and add orientation arrows; avoid stacking heavier components on these light enclosures.
- For multiple boxes, palletize without overhang, cross‑stack, strap, and stretch‑wrap; list NMFC 116300 and Class 150 on the BOL to prevent reclass.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 150 gives predictable rating and cleaner quotes, reducing surprise reweigh/reclass fees.
- Non‑hazmat status opens more carrier choices and flexible pickup windows.
- Boxed packaging aligns with standard LTL processes, lowering special handling and minimizing damage claims.
- Using the precise NMFC on paperwork speeds dispute resolution and protects claim eligibility.
