How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Choose sturdy packaging: small heaters can go in reinforced boxes, while combined heater–huller–polisher units should be crated and bolted to skids with internal bracing.
- Stabilize sensitive parts: pad huller/polisher heads, cap steam or water ports, wrap control panels, and add desiccants to prevent moisture during transit.
- Mark and document clearly: label NMFC 116790, Class 100, show center of gravity, apply This Side Up/Do Not Stack as needed, and include serial numbers on the packing list.
- Plan the pickup: confirm forklift or liftgate needs, provide exact dims and weight, and note there is no density rating—this speeds LTL dispatch and prevents reclass.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing with fixed Class 100 reduces reclass fees and surprise rebills.
- Non-hazardous designation broadens carrier options and streamlines paperwork.
- Boxed or crated requirement limits damage risk to high-value processing machinery, lowering claims and downtime.
- Simple, non-density classification accelerates quoting and load planning for LTL networks.
