How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List on the BOL as Meal Driers, NMFC 116830, Class 100, and note any accessories (motors, gearboxes, control panels) shipped loose or attached.
- Mount the dryer on a steel or heavy wood skid, block and brace the shell and feet, and cap all steam/condensate, oil, and gearbox ports to prevent leaks.
- Protect critical components—seal control panels, sensors, and bearings with weatherproof covers and edge protection; shrink-wrap after anchoring to the skid.
- Mark center of gravity and rigging points; provide forklift clearance. Example: disc dryer on 6x6 steel skid, lag-bolted, banded, with panels crated separately.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable rating: fixed Class 100 eliminates density disputes and reclass charges on these heavy processing machines.
- Non-hazmat status streamlines booking and reduces accessorials tied to documentation and special handling.
- Clear NMFC mapping (116830) speeds quotes and improves TMS accuracy for LTL or partial truckload moves.
- Proper skid-mounting and blocking reduce damage risk to high-value internals, cutting claim exposure and downtime at feed or rendering plants.
