Notes
Note 117556: NOTE-Applies only on chlorinators used with salt water pools or spas to convert salt into sodium hypochlorite.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack each chlorinator in a rigid, double-wall box with molded foam or air-cell cushioning around the housing, unions, and sensor leads; bag loose fittings to prevent scuffs.
- If shipping power or control modules, place them in a separate inner carton and immobilize cords; keep the salt cell or feeder body upright and mark This Side Up.
- Palletize multiple boxes in a single layer when possible to avoid crushing; no top load. Use edge protectors and two straps per box row for stability.
- Do not co-pack with pool chemicals. Note Non-Hazmat chlorinator equipment on the BOL and include packaging photos to streamline claims if damage occurs.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Non-hazardous listing helps avoid hazmat surcharges and speeds dock processing.
- NMFC reference for boxed chlorinators reduces reclass disputes and accelerates quoting.
- Stronger carton and cushioning standards cut breakage on housings, unions, and sensors.
- Consistent boxable format improves pallet density and can lower overall LTL costs.
