How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Ensure components are clean and drained of fluids. Bag parts, add VCI wrap, cap hydraulic ports, then double-box with dense foam or brace securely in a wood crate.
  2. Immobilize heavy assemblies: block rotors and calipers, band the crate to a pallet, and mark center of gravity plus “Aircraft Brake Parts – Fragile.”
  3. On the BOL, include part numbers and ATA chapter, then specify: “NMFC 11920 – Brakes/Brake Parts NOI, Class 100, boxed/crated.” Add commercial invoice for cores or overhaul returns.
  4. For MRO or AOG deliveries, list consignee contact and receiving hours. Request liftgate or dock appointment for crated brakes over 150 lb to prevent delays.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Fixed Class 100 rating removes density disputes, accelerating quotes and preventing costly reclass fees.
  • Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat surcharges and opens more carrier options for urgent AOG routes.
  • Proper boxing/crating and immobilization reduce damage on high-value brake assemblies, cutting claims and unplanned downtime.
  • Clear NMFC documentation streamlines OEM/MRO audits and supports reliable landed-cost forecasting across programs.
