How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Build sturdy skids or crates with V-block cradles or chocks to stop diffuser drums from rolling; band securely and guard vane edges and bolt holes.
- Mark NMFC 119510, Class 150 - Steel Turbine Diffuser/Drum (non-aircraft) on the BOL; include piece count and outer dimensions for accurate rating and pickup planning.
- Keep center of gravity low and clearly labeled; lift with slings or rigging points, and never insert forklift tines into the bore or across vane openings.
- For repair or return moves, cap machined faces with plywood or bolt-on covers, add rust inhibitor and desiccants, and photograph condition before pickup for claims support.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 150 eliminates density worksheets, cutting reclass risk and accelerating quote turnaround.
- Clear non-aircraft designation avoids misrouting with aviation parts and reduces security-related delays.
- Proper crating guidance lowers damage rates to precision vanes, minimizing outages for power and process facilities.
- Predictable classification supports consistent LTL pricing and easier bundling with other turbine components.
