How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 122895 and Class 150 on the BOL, choose “crates” as the packaging, and quote LTL without density since this is a fixed class item.
- Before crating, brace hopper mouths and discharge chutes with blocking, band the unit to a skid, and add corner protection to prevent sheet-metal flex.
- Remove loose linkages, latch pins, and guards from the trailer-type assembly; bag and secure hardware inside the crate and label the contents clearly.
- Mark lift points and center of gravity on the crate; ensure 4-way forklift entry and apply “Do Not Stack” and “Keep Upright” to avoid chute deformation.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 150 reduces reclass risk and keeps LTL quotes predictable when shipping crated mower/thatcher hoppers.
- Crating minimizes damage to thin hopper walls and chutes, lowering claim costs and improving delivery quality for landscapers and grounds crews.
- Clear NMFC mapping accelerates carrier acceptance and dock throughput, cutting accessorial delays during peak lawn care seasons.
- Standardized packaging for trailer-type attachments simplifies multi-location distribution for parks, golf courses, and equipment dealers.
