How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Crate for blade-tip clearance: block at the hub, pad each blade, and secure with soft webbing. Add shock and tilt indicators to the exterior.
- Load horizontally with the center of gravity over the forks; use skid runners long enough for stable handling, and mark Do Not Stack and This Side Up clearly.
- Declare overall crate length, width, and height, plus the longest blade dimension to prevent oversize surcharges (e.g., 96 in length may trigger fees).
- For international moves, use ISPM-15 heat-treated wood and corrosion protection (VCI wrap for aluminum hubs). List serial/PN on the BOL for control.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Cuts damage risk to thin blade tips and hubs, reducing claims and costly AOG delays.
- Consistent rating when boxed or crated lowers reclass exposure and inspection fees.
- Right-sized crates improve forklift fit and handling, avoiding special equipment charges.
- Complete specs upfront (materials, dimensions, packaging) speed quoting and carrier acceptance.
