How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack each pair in a double‑wall box or custom plywood crate; immobilize with cross‑bracing, foam blocks at bindings, and edge guards to prevent bending during fork handling.
- Protect metal with VCI wrap and desiccant; seal and label “Keep Dry,” especially for winter routes or long transits to remote airfields.
- If fittings or rigging are installed, bag loose hardware, cap sharp studs, and strap components so nothing chafes against the ski surfaces.
- On the BOL, note “NMFC 12360, Class 100 – Aircraft Skis.” Mark lift points on the long side and add “Do Not Fork Through” arrows for crates over 72 inches.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 removes density disputes, accelerating LTL quotes and reducing reclass fees.
- Boxed or crated presentation boosts carrier acceptance for long items and avoids penalties tied to loose freight.
- Corrosion control and internal bracing lower claim risk on precision edges and mounts, preserving asset value.
- Clear NMFC reference supports audit trails for OEMs, MROs, and bush operators, improving on‑time dispatch.
