How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Remove detachable pressing heads or chests when possible, wrap each with foam and VCI for metal parts, then block and brace inside a sturdy box or crate.
- Secure the buck to a bolted skid and strap across the frame to control center of gravity; mark lift points to avoid grabbing delicate head assemblies.
- Protect protrusions with foam collars and corner boards, then add tip-and-tell and shock indicators to deter mishandling during LTL transfers.
- Show NMFC 124315, Class 100 on the BOL, list piece count and exterior dimensions, and request liftgate or inside pickup if the crated press lacks dock access.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 rating delivers predictable pricing across models, simplifying quoting and budget approvals.
- Non-hazardous classification avoids hazmat fees and carrier limitations, widening carrier options and lowering total cost.
- Proper crating reduces damage risk to precision bucks and heads, cutting claims and protecting uptime for laundry or garment operations.
- Accurate NMFC 124315 designation reduces reclass/reweigh disputes, preventing delays and administrative chargebacks.
