How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Select the right pack: use a fully enclosed crate for tall masts or a reinforced box with dense foam for compact units. Bolt the chassis to a skid and block the mast.
- Stabilize moving parts: tie back chains, pad and band forks, shrink‑wrap controls, add edge protectors, and mark center of gravity plus “Do Not Stack.”
- Record specs on the BOL: even with Class 100, list exact dimensions and total weight. Arrange liftgate or adequate forklift capacity for heavier stackers.
- Describe accurately: “Stackers, in boxes or crates,” reference NMFC 124335, Class 100, and include packing photos to prevent disputes and speed claims resolution.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 simplifies rating and quoting, avoiding density disputes and costly reclass fees.
- Boxed/crated protection lowers damage risk to masts, hydraulics, and controls, reducing claims and replacement costs.
- Clear orientation and COG markings speed cross‑dock handling, cutting dwell time and accessorial delays.
- Non‑haz status broadens carrier options, enabling competitive LTL rates and more reliable transit times.
