Notes
Note 124572: NOTE-Shipper must load and consignee unload. Shipper must certify on shipping order and bill of lading at time of shipment as follows: "The used screw machines are returned for credit purposes and consignee agrees to accept shipment as having value only for the purpose of examination and scrapping for metal content."
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Put the RMA/credit number on the BOL and note: “Returned for Credit – NMFC 124570; see Note item 124572.” This speeds carrier acceptance and avoids reclass questions.
- Mount the steel screw machine to a solid skid: lag-bolt the base, add blocking and bracing, then band to the skid and wrap. Keep no overhang and protect corners.
- Secure moving parts: lock spindles and slides, remove toolholders or bar feeder attachments, guard sharp projections, and cap any lube lines to prevent drips in transit.
- Mark center of gravity and lift points clearly. Arrange a forklift or liftgate if no dock is available, and confirm skid dimensions and weight for LTL pickup.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Class 60 rating helps lower LTL rates on dense steel machinery, keeping return freight costs in check.
- Using the “returned for credit” designation minimizes disputes and costly reclassification or inspection fees.
- Skid-mounted packaging speeds cross-dock handling and reduces damage risk, improving claim outcomes and uptime.
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat surcharges and extra paperwork, accelerating credits and cash flow.
