How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Palletize or crate machines; bolt bases to skids with lock washers, add shock pads under feet, and band the frame to prevent walk from residual vibration.
- Shield delicate screen decks and trays with braced plywood, cap electrical leads and control boxes, and bag hardware or springs in a labeled kit.
- State orientation and full footprint for quotes, including hoppers, discharge chutes, or overhangs from motors and counterweights; mark center of gravity and lift points.
- For rotary feeders/airlocks, immobilize rotors, plug inlets and outlets, wrap to keep dust out, and use drip trays if lubricated to avoid oil staining in transit.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Lower damage risk through rigid mounting and mesh protection, reducing costly downtime for quarries, aggregates, and process plants.
- Cleaner paperwork by matching NMFC wording (vibratory feeders, screens, vibrators, rotary feeders), minimizing reclass disputes when class is not listed.
- Better LTL economics by consolidating multiple loose vibrators into a single crated shipment with internal blocking and partitions.
- Broader carrier options thanks to non-hazardous status and clean, leak-free packaging, often translating to improved rates and faster tendering.
