How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. De-energize the unit, lockout/tagout, and secure trays and doors. Immobilize feeders and label sensitive sensors or cameras to prevent contact during handling.
  2. Place the machine or section on a heavy-duty 4‑way pallet (long sections often need 48x96). Block caster wheels, band to the skid, and add tip/tilt indicators.
  3. For parts: bundle conveyors and chutes, cap sharp edges, and bag small hardware. Pack control boards with ESD foam in double-wall cartons before crating.
  4. Mark center of gravity and forklift pockets. Include reassembly notes, wiring photos, and a contents list to streamline receiving and installation.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Fixed Class 150 means no density calculations, enabling faster, predictable LTL quotes across carriers.
  • Correct NMFC on the BOL reduces reclass fees and surprise accessorials, especially for long sections and irregular footprints.
  • Robust prep minimizes damage to precision optics and sensors, reducing downtime for mailrooms, parcel hubs, and service depots.
  • Consolidating machines and parts under one NMFC simplifies procurement and accelerates refurbishment and field service turnarounds.
