How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Select packaging by build: use a heavy double-wall box with foam for benchtop safes with flush hardware, or a custom wood crate with interior blocking for floor models with protruding hinges or boltwork.
- Palletize the boxed or crated safe on a 4‑way pallet; center the weight, add edge protectors, and band or stretch‑wrap securely. Mark Do Not Stack if the top panel isn’t load‑bearing.
- Immobilize doors and internals: lock or tape the door, remove loose shelves, fill voids, and through‑bolt tall units to the skid. Add tilt and shock indicators to deter rough handling.
- Complete the BOL with NMFC 125240, Class 92.5, and Non‑Haz. Request liftgate, delivery appointment, or inside service when shipping to clinics, retail, or sites without a dock.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 92.5 eliminates density calculations, cutting reclass risks and unexpected fees.
- Boxed or crated requirement aligns with LTL best practices, reducing handling damage and claims.
- Non‑hazardous designation avoids hazmat paperwork and surcharges, simplifying compliance and training.
- Single, clear NMFC entry speeds quoting and benchmarking, improving budget accuracy for deployments and multi‑site rollouts.
