How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Package the seed huller as a secure package: bolt the frame to a pallet or crate, block the hopper, and band the unit to prevent vibration and shift.
- Shield sensitive components—motors, gearboxes, belts, and controls—with corner protection and wrap; cap ports and drain residual oils to avoid leaks in transit.
- Select the correct NMFC class (92.5 or 100) per item 126140 notes for your package condition; note the chosen class and NMFC number on the BOL.
- Label center of gravity and lift points, and provide forklifting clearance. Clean seed residue to keep docks tidy and speed carrier acceptance.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Accurate class (92.5–100) keeps LTL quotes predictable and reduces costly reclass fees.
- Nonhazardous status expands carrier options and streamlines paperwork for faster tendering.
- Proper packaging drastically lowers damage risk, protecting motors and hulling assemblies and avoiding production downtime.
- Following the NMFC packaging notes can qualify for the lower class, improving freight rates on recurring shipments.
