How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List on the BOL: “NMFC 127400, Class 100 – Curbs (Pump Boxes), without fixtures” and specify packaging as boxes.
- Use heavy double‑wall or tri‑wall corrugated boxes with internal foam/blocking and corner protectors to immobilize the curb during transit.
- Ship curbs without valves, motors, or other fixtures attached; send accessories separately to keep this classification and avoid reclass fees.
- Cap any openings and shield edges with fiberboard or foam; add “Do Not Stack” if the box lacks a top load rating for LTL handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 removes density calculations, speeding up quotes and reducing rating disputes.
- Non‑hazardous status streamlines compliance and minimizes carrier restrictions for jobsite deliveries.
- Boxed packaging aligns with standard LTL handling, often improving rates versus custom crating.
- Correct NMFC on paperwork cuts reclass charges and claim risk for OEMs and mechanical contractors.
