Classification Details

NMFC Description Class
127650.00 Pumps, fuel storage tank, submersible, consisting of pump/motor and manifold assemblies, with telescoping connecting pipe or without pipe, see Note, item 127651, in boxes or Package 2364 70

Notes

Note 127651: NOTE-Pump/motor assembly must be disconnected from any connecting pipe, and pipe must be telescoped to its shortest length.

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Choose packaging per NMFC: heavy-duty boxes with foam blocking, or Package 2364 with a skidded base, rigid bracing, and banding. Collapse or remove the telescoping pipe and secure it to prevent bending.
  2. Mark clearly: “Center of Gravity” and “Do Not Lift By Pipe.” List components on the BOL (pump/motor + manifold assemblies) and include NMFC 127650, Class 70 for rating consistency.
  3. Prepare the unit: drain and purge test fluids, cap all ports, protect electrical leads, and guard the motor endbell. Stretch-wrap for dust control without covering fork openings.
  4. Quote and tender at fixed Class 70—no density needed. Select LTL carriers experienced with machinery, and request liftgate or appointment only when the crate weight and site conditions require it.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Predictable rating: fixed Class 70 prevents density disputes and avoids costly reclass charges.
  • Fewer claims: Package 2364 or robust boxing shields manifolds and pipes, reducing damage and downtime at fueling sites.
  • Faster tendering: non-hazardous status and clear component coverage streamline carrier approval and pickup scheduling.
  • Simplified operations: one NMFC for pump/motor and manifold assemblies standardizes quoting and SKU mapping across locations.
