How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Choose compliant packaging: use sturdy 2F cartons or 21F wooden crates with corner blocks and foam so cabinet faces and edges won’t scuff.
- Secure for cross-docks: strap boxed or crated cabinets to a pallet, add edge protectors, and mark orientation arrows to prevent racking and door misalignment.
- Document clearly on the BOL: “NMFC 129735 – Cabinets, Wooden – Class 150 – Non-Haz – Box/Crate/Package 2F/21F” to avoid reclass or inspection delays.
- Prep the unit: remove or secure shelves and hardware in a labeled bag, wrap pulls and hinges, and protect finished surfaces with blanket wrap inside the outer pack.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 150 simplifies rating and budgeting since charges won’t swing with density changes.
- Using 2F/21F-compliant packs reduces damage risk and strengthens claim defensibility for high-finish cabinetry.
- Consistent NMFC labeling speeds carrier acceptance and cuts inspection holds, improving on-time performance for projects and store build-outs.
- Palletizing multiple boxed cabinets enables efficient consolidation, lowering handling fees and minimizing accessorials.
