How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- State NMFC 130230 and Class 125 on the BOL and select “packages” as the packaging type to avoid density-based quoting or reclass.
- Crate or palletize with blocking for motors, belts, and conveyors; protect sensors or camera modules with foam, corner boards, and stretch-wrap, then band tightly to the base.
- Apply lockout to power leads, cap connectors, and remove soil or produce residue to prevent inspection delays; mark Do Not Tip and Keep Dry for sensitive calibration.
- Plan accessorials for farm or shed pickups—request liftgate or long-fork service if no dock; keep total height under common LTL limits (around 84 in) to improve compatibility.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 125 simplifies pricing and quoting, cutting reclass and rebill risks for agricultural machinery.
- Proper packaging for powered sorters reduces damage to frames, belts, and sensors, lowering claims and harvest downtime.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines booking and avoids hazmat surcharges, accelerating transit through LTL networks.
- Consistent classification enables reliable lane benchmarking and budget planning for dealers and packhouses season after season.
