Notes
Note 130342: NOTE-Applies only on sprayers, other than self-propelled, consisting of an air compressor and spray guns, nozzles and hose, with or without motors, engines, heaters, compressed air tanks, fuel tanks or cement, paint, plaster or grease tanks or gauges, mounted on hand trucks or wheels, or not on hand trucks nor wheeled.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm eligibility against NMFC Note 130342 and ship as a packaged machine; drain tanks, purge hoses, and cap all ports to prevent leaks.
- Protect protrusions and delicate parts: remove guns/wands, guard nozzles with caps or foam, coil and secure hoses, and immobilize controls inside a rigid carton or crate.
- Palletize securely: bolt or band the sprayer frame to a skid, add corner boards, shrink wrap, and mark This Side Up; avoid stacking to protect pump assemblies.
- List NMFC 130340 Class 85 on the BOL with piece count and packaging type (carton, crate, pallet) for clean rating, faster quotes, and smoother claims.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing: fixed Class 85 removes density calculations and cuts reclass or reweigh fees across carriers and lanes.
- Single code coverage: one item handles cement, paint, plaster, and grease sprayers, simplifying catalogs, SKUs, and TMS routing for distributors and rental fleets.
- Lower damage and OS&D: packaging practices for hoses, nozzles, and frames reduce in-transit incidents and costly jobsite delays.
- Operational speed: clear NMFC and non-hazardous status improve carrier acceptance, trimming dock dwell, accessorials, and turnaround times.
