How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. List NMFC 130450 and Class 100 on the BOL, and note whether the machine ships with stand KD or without stand. Include piece count for multiple boxed components.
  2. Use double-wall cartons and immobilize moving parts: lock or zip-tie the carriage, guard blades/dies, and bag loose fasteners, then tape the hardware bag inside the main box.
  3. Void-fill with foam or kraft paper around the cutting head. Mark fragile zones and add This Side Up so the machine base remains down during handling.
  4. For multi-box sets, palletize with the heaviest box on the bottom, add corner boards, then strap and wrap. Apply Do Not Clamp if cartons can crush under clamp trucks.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Fixed Class 100 rating removes density disputes, streamlining quotes and preventing costly re-class fees.
  • Non-hazardous status reduces paperwork and minimizes hazmat surcharges or carrier restrictions.
  • Boxed presentation improves stackability and trailer cube planning, lowering damage risk and claim exposure.
  • Clear stand KD/without stand notation speeds inspections and dock throughput, cutting delays and rebills.
