How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 130450 and Class 100 on the BOL, and note whether the machine ships with stand KD or without stand. Include piece count for multiple boxed components.
- Use double-wall cartons and immobilize moving parts: lock or zip-tie the carriage, guard blades/dies, and bag loose fasteners, then tape the hardware bag inside the main box.
- Void-fill with foam or kraft paper around the cutting head. Mark fragile zones and add This Side Up so the machine base remains down during handling.
- For multi-box sets, palletize with the heaviest box on the bottom, add corner boards, then strap and wrap. Apply Do Not Clamp if cartons can crush under clamp trucks.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 rating removes density disputes, streamlining quotes and preventing costly re-class fees.
- Non-hazardous status reduces paperwork and minimizes hazmat surcharges or carrier restrictions.
- Boxed presentation improves stackability and trailer cube planning, lowering damage risk and claim exposure.
- Clear stand KD/without stand notation speeds inspections and dock throughput, cutting delays and rebills.
