Notes

Note 130606: NOTE-Provisions apply only on systems or stations designed to collect or pump sewage consisting of SU catch basin, catch basin cover, control panel, liquid level control, pump, pump parts and alarm. Accessorial equipment must be in boxes or crates.

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Confirm you’re shipping a complete sewage pump system or station on skids and reference the note for item 130606 on the BOL to direct carrier rating.
  2. Measure the full skid footprint and overall height, including control panels, base rails, and lifting eyes; list total weight and count of skids for accurate LTL quotes.
  3. Block, brace, and band pumps, valves, and panels to the skid; cap all pipe ports and wrap control boxes. Use corner protection and mark tall loads as Do Not Stack.
  4. For jobsite deliveries (e.g., municipal lift stations or plant sumps), pre-book liftgate, crane, or appointment services and note that the freight is non-hazardous.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Precise NMFC callout with the referenced note limits reclass disputes and keeps shipments rated under the intended machinery item.
  • On-skid assemblies reduce handling units and loading time, lowering damage risk and potentially improving LTL pricing consistency.
  • Clear documentation aligned to item 130606’s note speeds carrier approvals and quote turnaround, improving bid timelines for utility projects.
  • Non-hazardous status avoids HazMat surcharges and broadens carrier options without added compliance overhead.
