How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 130620 and Class 85 on the BOL, include “KD” and exact counts (e.g., 2 crates + 1 box) to match the packaged set.
- Cushion belts, drives, and stainless surfaces with foam and edge guards; bag small fasteners and sensors separately and label each package.
- Build crates with internal blocking to lock down frame rails and legs; add shock/tilt indicators for delicate conveyor assemblies.
- Mind LTL length thresholds—keep long rails under 96 in when possible to avoid overlength fees, or clearly flag any piece over 8 ft.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 85 removes density guesswork, reducing reclass fees and quote variance.
- KD boxing/crating lowers damage risk and helps avoid oversize surcharges, cutting total landed cost.
- Clear NMFC mapping speeds dock handling and improves load planning for food-line equipment, supporting on-time performance.
- Accurate package counts and labeling streamline receiving and installation, shortening downtime on confectionery lines.
