How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the correct subclass that determines Class 85 or 100 for your machine type or condition, then include NMFC 130840 on the BOL.
- Package the machine to prevent vibration damage to comb sets and lap rollers; use dense foam, bracing, and edge protectors inside the package.
- Strap and stretch-wrap the packaged unit to a sturdy pallet, mark lift points and center of gravity, and keep fork openings accessible on two sides.
- For mill deliveries or refurb shops, note access needs (dock, forklift, or liftgate) and attach photos of the packaged unit to speed carrier handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Accurate Class 85–100 selection avoids reclass fees and surprise rate adjustments on textile machinery moves.

- Clear NMFC 130840 identification streamlines carrier acceptance and reduces inspection delays at terminals.
- Non-hazardous status simplifies booking and lowers accessorial risk, improving transit reliability and total landed cost.
