How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Quote LTL as NMFC 131410 and select Boxes as the packaging; Class 85 applies without density calculations.
- Use rugged cartons with dividers to protect shuttle tips and cavities; e.g., a 275# test box with foam cells for a 50-piece set.
- Sort and label by material (wood, metal, composite) and mark “Shuttles—Machinery Components” for clearer carrier handling and OS&D tracking.
- Palletize multiple boxes with corner boards and stretch wrap; keep within a 48 x 40 footprint to stay stackable and avoid handling fees.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 85 rating reduces reclass risk and keeps LTL rates predictable versus density-based items.
- Damage-resistant boxing and internal partitions lower claim frequency on precision-machined or finished shuttles.
- Non-hazmat classification streamlines paperwork and avoids hazardous surcharges for faster tendering.
- Standardized boxed packs improve dock throughput and simplify replenishment from suppliers to production lines.
