How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Protect precision areas: cap threads and studs, cover bearing seats, and immobilize the shaft with foam, corrugated inserts, or blocking inside a rigid box.
- Match box strength to weight: use double‑wall cartons for heavier truck or trailer spindles and keep each carton within carrier lift limits for safer handling.
- For multi-piece moves, palletize boxed spindles in a single layer, band and wrap tightly, and orient heavy ends down; add “Do Not Stack” if faces could be crushed.
- Label clearly with part numbers, left/right orientation, and oil/grease status, and include a packing list for faster receiving and warranty traceability.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable costing with fixed Class 85—no density breakpoints, fewer reclass risks, and faster quote-to-book cycles.
- Boxed presentation protects bearing surfaces and threads, cutting damage rates and avoiding downtime for fleets, rebuilders, and machine shops.
- Non-hazardous designation streamlines paperwork and broadens carrier options, helping accelerate pickups and reduce accessorial friction.
- Consolidating multiple boxed spindles on a pallet improves handling efficiency and can lower per-unit LTL charges through better minimum utilization.
