Notes
Note 131827: NOTE-Applies only on windshields (superstructures) or curtains for cloth tractor cabs (weather protectors).
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Break down the cab set KD and pack cloth, frames, and hardware by subassembly in double-wall boxes; pad sharp ends and add corner guards to stop punctures.
- Fold windshields/superstructures or curtains per Note 131827 and sleeve clear panels; band bundles before boxing so parts can't slide.
- Use internal blocking (honeycomb, foam, or molded pulp) to immobilize pieces; mark cartons DO NOT BEND along the long side.
- List contents and piece count on each label (1 of X) to keep the KD kit together; palletize only if carton size demands, then strap and top-cap.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 85 eliminates density debates, delivering quotes that match invoices and preventing reclass fees.
- KD flat or folded packing shrinks cube, easing LTL minimums and trimming cost per unit.
- Boxed kits protect cloth and glazing, lowering concealed-damage claims and keeping installs on schedule.
- Non-hazardous commodity broadens carrier options, speeding pickups during peak farm seasons.
