How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Secure each assembly to a skid with steel banding and wheel chocks; add wood blocking between track treads to prevent nesting shift during cross-dock handling.
- Shield hubs, bearings, and grease fittings with caps or heavy poly and corrugated pads to keep contaminants out and avoid punctures from exposed tread edges.
- Use edge protectors under bands and avoid stacking beyond two layers; keep center of gravity low and label pallets with an up arrow and piece count.
- On the BOL, list NMFC 132200 at Class 85; no density needed. For farm or jobsite deliveries, request liftgate or forklift access and note appointment requirements.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 85 rating streamlines quoting and prevents costly reclass charges since density does not apply to this item.
- Non-hazardous status reduces paperwork and compliance delays, speeding pickup and transit for ag and construction service parts.
- Purpose-built packaging guidance lowers claim risk on heavy steel or rubber-tread components, protecting margins and customer satisfaction.
- Efficient palletizing and blocking minimize cubic footprint and rehandling time, improving LTL freight rates and dock throughput.
