How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Crate or heavy-duty box the riding trowel with internal blocking around the frame and cage; immobilize the seat, steering, and controls to prevent movement.
- Remove pans and blades, wrap them, and band to a skid inside the crate; protect guard rings and cap any exposed hydraulic or fuel lines.
- Ship the unit dry—drain fuel and engine oil, secure caps, and place absorbent pads to avoid leaks during transit.
- Mark the BOL with NMFC 132465 and the packaging type (box or crate); request liftgate or appointment service for jobsite or slab-side deliveries.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Correct NMFC identification reduces reclass fees and surprise inspections.
- Crated packaging enables standard LTL handling, cutting damage risk and claims costs for high-value machinery.
- Shipping dry and non-hazardous broadens carrier options and avoids hazmat surcharges or delays.
- Detaching pans and guards lowers cube and improves stackability, helping reduce total freight spend.
