How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Bundle long rails, linkages, and drive rods on a 48x40 pallet with wood dunnage and edge protectors; avoid overhang and keep stack height under 60 inches for LTL handling.
- Sleeve slender shafts or gear tie-bars in corrugated tubes or PVC pipe with capped ends to prevent bending; do not co-pack with glass or brittle panels.
- Crate gearboxes and actuators separately inside KD kits using blocking and foam; label “KD Components – Do Not Top Load” and include a packing list by window run or zone.
- List NMFC 132760, Class 70 on the BOL; provide accurate piece counts, pallet dimensions, and weight even though the class is not density-based.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable Class 70 classification reduces reweigh/reclass disputes and speeds quoting across carriers.
- KD iron/steel hardware cubes efficiently, lowering LTL costs while keeping project kits together for faster installs.
- Durable packaging for long, slender parts cuts damage claims and avoids costly jobsite delays in factories and greenhouses.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options, improving lane coverage and transit time selection without hazmat fees.
