How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use NMFC 132800 when booking LTL for boxed or crated overhead car wash assemblies and components; enter Class 100 to avoid reclass and surprise charges.
- Drain water lines and pumps, cap all ports, and remove detergents before packing. Dry the unit so packages don’t leak or stain other freight.
- Stabilize spray booms, manifolds, and rotating arms with internal blocking. Wrap nozzles and sensors, then add tip-and-shock indicators for handling visibility.
- Choose rigid packaging: double‑wall cartons or wooden crates counted as packages. Strap the package to a pallet as one handling unit and label center of gravity.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 rating enables fast, predictable rate shopping across carriers for overhead car wash machinery.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier availability and eliminates hazmat surcharges for packaged equipment.
- Properly packaged machinery reduces damage rates, curbs claims, and minimizes accessorials tied to inadequate packing.
- Accurate NMFC use prevents reclass fees and billing disputes, protecting margins on equipment moves and installs.
