How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Quote and bill as NMFC 134040, Class 100, boxed. List carton count and inner pack quantities on the BOL for clear handling.
- Use heavy-duty double-wall cartons with corrugated partitions or molded trays; add top and bottom pads to limit chipping from point loads.
- For bulk lots, bag marbles in poly liners before placing in divided boxes to reduce surface abrasion in transit.
- Palletize tightly: keep cartons inside the pallet footprint, add edge boards, stretch-wrap with 50% overlap, and secure with two bands.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing: fixed Class 100 minimizes density disputes and reclass fees.
- Dense commodity maximizes weight per pallet, improving cost per pound and avoiding cubic minimum surprises.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines routing and eliminates hazmat surcharges and paperwork.
- Stronger boxing and partitions cut damage rates, protecting margins for toy, craft, and gift retailers.
