Classification Details

NMFC Description Class
13560.00 Plate or Sheet, NOI:

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Palletize flat stacks with full-length skids so sheets or plates are supported edge to edge; add dunnage every 18–24 inches to prevent sag on longer lengths.
  2. Use corner boards and edge guards, then band with polyester or steel strapping placed on dunnage, not raw edges, to avoid crush marks and sharp-edge damage.
  3. Interleave sheets with paper or poly film to limit abrasion; stretch-wrap to keep bundles clean and add desiccant if moisture exposure or long transit is likely.
  4. Mark bundles with piece count, alloy/tempers if known, and “Do Not Fork Under Straps”; for thin-gauge stacks, add cones or stickers to deter top-stacking.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Non-hazardous aluminum lowers compliance burden and eliminates hazmat fees, improving landed cost predictability.
  • Flat, uniform bundles cube efficiently on standard pallets, reducing reweigh/reclass risk and helping carriers optimize trailer space for better rates.
  • Clear NOI description streamlines quoting and tendering, speeding up LTL bookings and reducing back-and-forth with carrier rules clerks.
  • Damage-mitigating packaging (edge guards, interleaving, proper banding) cuts claim rates and scrap losses, protecting margins on high-value aluminum.
